About

He is a Senior Lecturer at the Universitat Politècnica de València and a researcher at INGENIO (CSIC–UPV) holding a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering in the field of Project and Innovation Management, as well as studies in Political Science. With more than twenty years of experience in the field of sustainable cities, his research focuses on urban sustainability transitions, with particular attention to planning, innovation, and governance processes. He understands research as a process that itself has the potential to contribute to urban transformation through action-research dynamics and the co-production of knowledge based on dialogue, reflexivity, and learning among diverse actors.

His work has been published in journals such as Frontiers in Sustainable Cities, Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions, Ciudad y Territorio, Journal of City Climate Policy and Economy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Urban Transformations, Energy Research & Social Science, Sustainability, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Habitat International, Sustainable Development, International Development Planning Review, and Journal of International Development.

He has been a visiting researcher at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm within the Viable Cities programme, and at UN-Habitat in Nairobi within the Sustainable Cities programme. His teaching has mainly focused on development processes, project design and management, and qualitative research methodologies.

He has also served as Second Deputy Mayor of the City of Valencia in the Govern de la Nau, with responsibility for citizen participation, innovation, and climate change; as Vice-President of LAS NAVES, Valencia’s urban innovation centre, and of the Climate and Energy Foundation. In addition, he was General Coordinator for Urban Strategies and the Sustainable Agenda in the Mayor’s Office of Valencia, with direct responsibility for the Valencia Urban Strategy 2030, the Valencia Climate Mission, the European Green Capital 2024 programme, and the management of European funds.
